Change Your Attitude About Change

Tony Robbins, a life coach, is credited with a quote where he says: “Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.” A friend once shared the same quote in a different way. He said: “Until the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change you won’t change.” I don’t know who originated his quote but the two quotes reveal a clear message: A person who refuses to change will stay the same.

Dealing with any type of change can be difficult. Change can be painful, cause us to feel lost because we are in an unfamiliar place, strip us of control, and leave us powerless. Yet without it we will stay the same. We will limit our growth, limit our usefulness, and weaken our character. This is not the type of life that God has for us. His idea of life involves just the opposite, a life where we are changed to be Godly.

Therefore God changes us to be Godly through trials. Romans 5:3 says, “We can rejoice too when we run into problems and trials for we know that they are good for us – they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady.” (Living Bible). You see, we are creatures of habit that will not change. We like the familiar, the control, the place of comfort and ease. So God uses trials to take us to a hard place where we are lost and uncomfortable then He changes us to look and behave like him. Essentially it is the hard place where we are changed to be Godly.

The goal of change is Godliness. We must experience trials to be Godly. Otherwise we will stay the same. Refuse to be comfortable staying the same. Don’t resist change, instead allow the all loving God to bless you through change so you will be like Him.
